5 Minutes with Marianne Fonseca | La Michaux #1

Marianne Fonseca is a Brazilian supermodel with a heart of gold. It's no surprise she's among the top models today, gracing runways at fashion weeks worldwide and starring in major campaigns for brands like Dior and Hugo Boss.

Marianne is one of La Michaux's pioneers, so it's no coincidence she's our first guest in '5 Minutes with La Michaux'.

Hi Marianne, 
How are you doing, especially with everything going on in the world right now? 

Hello, I am doing good and trying to adjust to the new way of living we are forced to adapt right now.
It has been strange to realize we are living in such times where we can't even see our families and loved ones, we can't go out to do simple activities and cities are looking like ghost towns. I use a mask every time I go out of my apartment even to put the garbage away for example. I never thought we would be facing a situation like this and it has taught me a lot about taking the simple moments, like walking down the street with no worries, not for granted.

Exactly, it turned everyone’s world upside down and made us rethink our norms and values.
Do you have any tips & tricks for staying mentally and physically healthy right now? 

I would say that it is good to create a routine at home, even though it can be boring to do activities at home all day, it is healthier than sitting around and do nothing.
In the beginning, I was sleeping very late and waking up late, I didn't care about looking pretty and it became a bit of depressing.

Now I plan my days with something new to do at home and surprisingly I have found many things to do! I learn how to cook something, I do a workout online, I organize my closet and documents that I have been procrastinating (I'm sure everyone has something in their house they didn't have time to do before) and now we all have plenty time for it. There are endless online classes for pretty much anything, music, learning a new language, cooking, etc.

I also get ready and put on makeup and do my hair just to lift up my spirit as a woman, it really helps my self-esteem.

I also like to be in touch with my family online to stay mentally healthy and happy.

Empowered women, empower women!
Which women inspire you the most and why? 

I would have to point out my mom, because she's such a beautiful example in my life, especially because of her teachings about being generous to others.

And also, Michelle Obama. The amount of time she dedicates to help build a better education system in the world, how much she fights for women`s rights in so many different scenarios. Its truly inspiring the work she does (no matter what party you support) I see her as a barrier breaker between any political party. In my opinion, she's an example of a woman trying to build a better world, especially for other women.

You’ve always been involved in charity work, can you tell us more about it? How can our La Michaux community support your mission? 

Growing up, I have been involved in community work back in Brazil, because my mom volunteered for an orphanage in my home town. When I was a kid she used to work with an organization helping kids with Aids in my city as well.
In my heart, I`ve always wanted to get involved with charity work myself.

A few years ago, I found out that the church I am a part of in the USA, goes on mission trips, so I signed up for it and since then, I have been to 4 trips, 2 times in Uganda and 2 times in Sri Lanka.

To keep us dreaming a little... What’s your favorite holiday destination and why?
My favorite holiday destination is a place with hot weather, islands, and beaches. That is a dream combination where I think about when going on holiday. Right now if I could, I would go back to the Maldives.

How do you prepare yourself for a day at the beach? What are your beach essentials?
Lots of different swimwear, I like to have different styles for different days and moods. A lot of sun cream, this one is very important, I have different ones for body and face. Sunglasses and mineral water spray for my face and lip balm to keep them from getting too dry.

What kind of books do you enjoy, and can you recommend one for our readers?
Right now I'm reading Melinda Gates book called “the moment of lift” and it talks about how empowering women change the world. She tells stories of inspiring people that she met around the world through her charity work in the Gates Foundation. It's a beautiful book, but honestly, I don't really like to read haha I do push myself tho.

Chocolate lava cake.
