Hi Katrina,

We’re happy for inviting you to this blog. Please tell us… Who’s Katrina Kruglova?

Hi to all our readers!
I’m a model living in NYC. Originally I’m a Russian kid.  I was born and raised there in this huge country with a thousand-year-old history and fundamental traditions.

I love traveling, exploring new places, new countries, new mentalities. I’m an active, curious, extreme-loving person, who chooses activity over a mellow vacation or lifestyle.

How did you start your modeling career? How were you discovered?

At the age of 18 I started modeling, which I must say is pretty late to start in this business. Usually, girls start around 15-16y.o. My career began with the famous fashion contest Elite Model Look. I'm not sure if it still exists these days, but back then it was a huge thing.

Right after Elite Model Look I signed with a mother agent and started to work on my career,  learning how to pose, and slowly learning the way this Industry works. I signed with various model agencies around the world and began working and traveling in different countries, moving from one country to another every 2 months, basically living like a Gypsy :)

You seem like a very confident and strong person in your pictures( very inspiring btw). Have you always been like that? When do you feel the most confident or feminine in your life?

Thank you very much for your warm words. I feel like being in this tough business you can’t be weak, it makes you tempered and steel-forged. When you begin traveling on your own pretty early, you become self-reliant much earlier than your friends you went school with; you learn how to solve problems on your own, you learn how to make, spend or save money at an early age.

I believe I've always had a strong personality and inner core, but, of course, modeling forged it even more. I feel like the older I get the more confident and feminine I become. But of course, it doesn’t mean that I always feel this way. I believe my confidence or femininity depends on my state of mind. One day I can wake up and feel very weak, belittled and not pretty enough without any reason.

The other day I just have this inner power in me and I feel that I can run the world :) . Of course, I try to work on my state of mind and when it’s a little bit off - I do as much as I can to bring back my real, positive and confident me- by turning on my fav music, by dancing, by singing, by meditating or just by simply going outside, walking for a bit, ideally in nature and trying to find and enjoy the beauty in simple things.

That’s a very real answer, thank you. Being aware of your state of mind is so important and choosing to do something about it is just powerful.  To not allow your (negative) emotions to overpower your intelligence, calmness is strength.
What kind of tips & tricks can you give to young girls pursuing a modeling career?

Always follow the dream. No matter what people around you say. If you have a dream, if you truly believe in it -  move towards it - everything is possible. Another thing that I feel I would suggest to little girls who see their life as a model - be ready to hear “no”, but never allow it to get to you, don't take it close to your heart and don’t let it break you down.
It has nothing to do with you, it doesn’t mean that you are not good enough, the only meaning is for example just wrong timing or maybe they want blond and you are brunette, or maybe they want a taller girl. If they say "no" to you today, it doesn’t mean they won’t tell you “yes” in 1 month or next year.

That’s so well said, persistence is key when chasing your dreams and don’t let a “no” control the outcome.
How do you like to spend your free time? What makes you happy? What are you truly passionate about?

I love biking and horse riding, skiing and dancing. This is something that brings a lot of joy to my life. The energy that you get after 30 mins of being in touch with horses is priceless. So magical. Also recently I’ve learned to play tennis and to kitesurf. So now I try to develop myself in these sports and improve my skills.
Out of all sports that I do, my main passion I guess is skiing. I try to go ski 1-2 times per season. If I can’t make it because of work or something else I really missing it in my life.

What makes me happy?
Fresh sea breeze, sun,  a glass of Aperol Spritz, loud music and a lot of dancing somewhere on the coast of Greece or France - will make me very happy for sure :)))  or just a beautiful restaurant with amazingly tasty food and ideally life music work too:)

Empowered women, empower women! Which other women inspire you daily and why?
I don’t really try to find inspiration in someone else, nor do I compare myself to anyone.  The only woman I compare myself to is me yesterday - becoming better and competing with myself is what motivates me.

Yeah, that’s true, I had to think of this quote: “ Look in the mirror, that’s your competition “.
Modeling & traveling by yourself is gaining a lot of life experiences. What life advice would you give to your younger self at this moment?

Do not be afraid to take risks and be more pushy and persistent. I feel like I was too sweet and to nice in my life, closing my eyes on someone’s behaving badly and justifying their behavior in my own eyes. These days I am learning to be more direct and honest about my feelings and to say what I think and what I want.

Yeah, I feel you, it’s something I’ve been working on the past year as well. Staying true to myself and to not sacrifice who you are for someone else.
How does your favorite summer holiday look like? What are your beach essentials? Favorite activities?

Mykonos is my big love.
I’ve been going there every year for the last 5 or 6 years. Of course, this year was different and I spent the whole summer in the Hamptons, which also was great.
But if you asked me where would I go if I only had 10 days for vacation - I’d say Mykonos for sure. I love the vibe, the food, nature, and the sea with crystal clear water.

Mykonos' atmosphere of dancing after or during lunch in a beautiful restaurant, enjoying the incredibly beautiful rays of the sun reflected in the emerald sea is everything!

What is an absolute must for me there are some sexy bikinis like La Michaux, sunscreen that gives your whole body an alluring shine like Coola, and a beautiful hat to finish the look.
My favorite activities in the summer are either kitesurfing or doing some other water sports, or just dancing with a glass of rose. :)

Yayyy, La Michaux bikinis for the win!!! Mykonos is still on my bucket list though, after hearing your experience, I just feel the urge to book it for next summer
:) .
Which holiday experience will you never forget? What was so special about it?

Oh... I know! It’s a very very special one. A very unique place, where tens of thousands of people go to and most of them start to prepare for about 6 months ahead (which is crazy haha).
It’s Burning Man. That was a mind-blowing experience for me, I’ve never seen anything like that in my life. It’s like being on a different planet, where a daily routine doesn’t exist, where all people are supper relaxed, kind and friendly, and where no one is trying to be someone they are not, but are just being themselves and not being afraid to show what they really are.

That’s the beauty of this festival. It’s a mix of music, art, freedom and spirit. If you have never been- you should go there at least once in your life to experience it. You won't find anything like that anywhere else.  I’ve been there only once, but I’m dying to get back there and I know one day I will!
